FC Round 11: The Dragon Slayer

Leave it to Dionysus to host a costume party for no reason other than he wanted to dress up like a lion with a full mane and all (he wanted to know what it felt like since he knew already what the joys of being a panther were*). After the debacle with Hecate, Sabrithylia wasn’t sure if Artemis would let her attend but she was given full permission (it helped that Hecate wasn’t invited to the party as well…)! Dionysus told her to dress up in a custom that would represent something she would either want to do or want to be.

It took Sabrithylia some time to come up with her outfit, but once her mind started working she didn’t stop until her outfit was complete. It was mainly black like the night sky and fitted her body tightly. Long sleeves and shoulder guards were also added on to give the look a more “battle ready” feel. She even made herself a dark chain and sapphire belt. All that was needed to complete the look was some body paint.

Growing up she was told the daring tales of when the dragons roamed the earth, waters, and skies. There were the Dracones (the ones which were more serpent like), the Cetea (the marine-dwelling ones), and lastly the Dracaena (the she-monster-like creatures). She often wondered if her mother was considered part of the Dracaena clan due to being part serpent and part woman, but she feared to ask the question.

Tonight she was going as a new dragon slayer! She loved reading the scrolls that told the stories of the great Heracles, of Jason and the Argonauts**, of Perseus***, and the strongest of the all Apollo****.

* The Panther is a symbol of Dionysus. It is said that he rode one into battle and that if needed he can transform himself into one.
** The Argonauts were a group of great Greek heroes who were on a mission to get Jason to his throne. The group was made up of Boreads (sons of Boreas, the North Wind) who could fly, Heracles, Philoctetes, Peleus, Telamon, Orpheus, Castor and Pollux, Atalanta, and Euphemus. In order to get his throne he had to get the Golden Fleece which was guarded by a dragon.
*** He legendary founder of Mycenae and of the Perseid dynasty of Danaans. In fact, Perseus’ deeds were so grand that they went on to provide the founding myths of the Twelve Olympians, a first of the heroes of Greek mythology. Of his conquests, one of the most memorable is the beheading of Medusa, the snake haired gorgon, with the aid of Athena’s polished shield. Afterwards, Perseus went on to slay another monster, the sea serpent Cetus sent by Poseidon.
**** Apollo's (the god light and the sun, truth and prophecy, healing, plague, music, poetry, etc.) biggest enemy and he swore to kill it for how it treated his mother (the beast was sent by Hera to torture the pregnant Leto - the mother of Apollo and Artemis - for getting pregnant by her husband Zeus). Apollo according to different myths was either four days old when he did this or four years old.

Hello everyone!! So for round 11 we were assigned, as you know, some beautiful clocks! Sab got a gorgeous Gothic-Dragon looking clock which was mainly black with a little bit of silver, gray and a dark blue. This was the outfit I could come up with that best matched the clock.
